Languages in Belarus
Belarusian and Russian are the two official languages. Both languages are part of the Slavic language family and are closely related, and it there are many similarities in both languages. Russian, in general, is more widely spoken by the population, where about 80% of the population is a native speaker of the language. It will be difficult to get by without some Russian. In addition, Belarusian is spoken by only 11% of the population, and generally only elder people that speak the language fluently.
Polish is spoken in the western parts, especially around Grodno.
English, on the other hand is not widely spoken in Belarus, but use is starting to be increase. Younger the people often people speak English fluently, but elder people rarely do.
