Do not tell the Labuanese that they are Sabahan. Furthermore, do not say that Labuan is a part of the State of Sabah. Most native of Labuan, especially youngsters proud of Labuan status as a Federal Territory of Malaysia. Before 16 April 1984, Labuan is merely a district under State of Sabah. After the Labuan Agreement 1984 signed between Federal Government of Malaysia and Sabah State Government, Labuan no longer a part of Sabah. Since the handover, Labuan became a Federal Territory that have equivalent status as other states in Malaysia with its own flag and state anthem.
