As a water source in the middle of the desert, Ein Avdat has always attracted humans and animals. Nowadays it is a popular hiking spot due to the beauty of the steep canyon in which it is located.
The most direct entrance is from the south (the top of the canyon), but many hikers choose to begin at Sdeh Boker (a kibbutz several kilometers north) and walk southward to see the whole length of the canyon.
