History of Greenbo State Resort Park
Original idea for a fishing lake and recreational area is attributed to George Collins and Dr. Virgil Skaggs while on a fishing trip in 1948. They put to their Greenup (County) Fish & Game Club memebers who approved the idea and they began to buy land and cobble together Greenbo Lake and Recreational area from funding from Greenup and Boyd County local communities. The management proved to be too difficult and the project was deeded over to the Commonwealth of Kentucky, under Governor Lawrence Wetherby in 1954.
