Putao is in a restricted area and it is only possible to visit by air and with a permit from MTT. Air Bagan flies twice a week from Myitkyina. It is possible to join an organized tour to Putao (the travel agency arranges the permits) and it is uncertain whether permits are issued to independent travelers.
