Kotor tourist information

Kotor tourist information

Kotor is situated in a most secluded part of Boka Kotorska bay, in the northern part of the Montenegro coast. It has developed around Stari Grad (Montenegrian for "old town"), the city's old town and best known landmark, which is listed with UNESCO World heritage sites. The bay is the deepest natural fjord in the Mediterranean Sea, and the scenery around it (including the steep mountains which come almost to the waterfront) is spectacular. Make sure to bring Euros or travelers cheques because Kotor's ATMs and banks may not work for American or Canadian credit cards or ATM cards. If you go to Tivat your ATM card will work there. Expect no understanding from bank staff in Kotor, they will not help you. Be forewarned. Understand the culture of the people of Kotor and this region: they are not expecially friendly or kind to tourists. Oftentimes, simple requests for information, or even for an espresso, the waiter or clerk will act annoyed or put off by your needing something. Sometimes clerks, waiters, and other service staff will be downright rude to you. This evidently is the culture of Montenegro: "the beautiful place with rude people".
