Lappeenranta airport in Finland is a small provincial airport located near the border of Russia and offers a low-cost alternative to Pulkovo Airport. It has become popular among Russian travellers, because it offers low-cost flights to Central Europe and is quite small airport not having the rush problems of bigger airports.
The airport is located only 2 km from the center. It is the oldest in Finland established in 1918. Air Baltic has routes to Tallinn and Riga, and Ryanair started its route between Lappeenranta and Dusseldorf/Weeze and to Brussels South Charleroi (starting November 2010). Both airlines may be adding more destinations in the future.
