Pasadena travel safety advice

Pasadena travel safety advice

Much of the city of Pasadena is inhabited by students, professors, scientists, and many other kinds of professionals, and is generally very safe. During your visit, you will probably need to take only basic precautions against petty pickpocketing or purse snatching (as you should anywhere in the Southland, or in big cities in general). On most days, Old Town Pasadena is normally busy with diners, shoppers, and party-goers well past 11 p.m. However, Pasadena does have a crime-ridden slum to the north and east of Interstate 210, which is contiguous with the similarly impoverished unincorporated community of Altadena to the north. To the west of Pasadena lies the impoverished Eagle Rock neighborhood of Los Angeles. Both North Pasadena and Eagle Rock have high rates of violent crime (especially homicide) and should be avoided at night.
